T-Shirt Quilt Calculator
Enter how many shirts you have and the block size you want. Sashing works out the layout, the finished quilt size, the sashing and border fabric, and the interfacing you need to stabilize every shirt.
Finished quilt
58 x 72"
In the app, this also gives you
- A full cut list, interfacing squares included
- Backing, batting and binding for the same quilt
- Saved straight into a project
How much interfacing does a T-shirt quilt need?
More than the sashing. Every shirt is fused to woven interfacing before it is cut, and the interfacing square is cut an inch larger than the block on each side so the block can be trimmed true afterwards. Woven fusible such as Pellon SF101 comes 20 inches wide, so a 14½-inch square takes a full width each: twenty shirts need around eight yards of it. Enter the width on your bolt and the calculator does the rest.
How big will the quilt be?
Pick a layout with as few empty spots as possible. With 12-inch blocks and 2-inch sashing around the outside, twenty shirts in four columns finish at 58 by 72 inches, a generous throw. Add a border to reach a twin. The finished size updates as you change any input.
The math mirrors the app's T-shirt quilt calculator, which also gives you the cut list and the backing, batting and binding for the same quilt.
There's more where that came from
The app adds the full cut list, saves the plan into a project with its own shopping list, and remembers your seam allowance and fabric width.
