How do I calculate quilt border fabric?
Each border's cut width is its finished width plus two seam allowances. Side borders go on first (their length is the quilt's current height), then the top and bottom span the new, wider quilt. The calculator joins width-of-fabric strips to reach those lengths and reports the strips and yardage per border. Mitered corners need extra length for the miter, so butted corners are the default — they waste less.
