In the app, this also gives you
- Precuts linked to your real stash
- Pattern requirements vs. what you own
- Strip-based precuts (jelly rolls) planned too
What can I cut from a precut?
A fat quarter is 18" × 22" — the same quarter-yard of fabric as a strip, cut into a chunkier shape that yields bigger pieces. A jelly roll is forty 2 1/2" strips; a charm pack is forty-two 5" squares; a layer cake is forty-two 10" squares. To know what fits, divide each dimension by your cut size and round down, then multiply. This calculator does it for the whole pack at once.
Yields per cut size for every precut: see the pieces-from-fabric guide or grab the printable cheat sheet. For fat quarters specifically — what one is worth in yards, and the squares it yields at every size — there is a fat quarter yardage chart.
There's more where that came from
The app knows every precut, links them to your stash, and works out whether the pack on your shelf covers the pattern you're planning.
